84 Ballet A trip hazard Long ballgowns are breathtaking, but in ballet they can also be a hazard. Oliver Haller, head of Dutch National Ballet’s costume atelier, had them shortened slightly from the original designs and added two discreet bustle lifts to each skirt. This allows the dancers greater freedom of movement and keeps the footwork beautifully visible. For the ballet spectacle Cinderella, our costume and props departments, among others, brought the production’s sumptuous stage world to life in a truly enchanting fashion.
