Known for its intimate sound and agility, the orchestra presents its own concert series featuring remarkable guest conductors and soloists. The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra performs in numerous venues at home and abroad, reaching both seasoned classical connoisseurs and new listeners. This season, the orchestra will perform in Orfeo ed Euridice and Norma. Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Ever since the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra was founded in 1888, the orche- stra has worked with leading conductors and soloists. Klaus Mäkelä will become chief conductor in 2027. Widely regarded as one of the world’s top ensembles, it performs around 120 concerts a year. The orchestra also reaches audiences worldwide with its videos, digital streams and radio and TV broadcasts. It has a long tradition of collaboration with Dutch National Opera, which it will be continuing this season with La damnation de Faust. Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra performs on leading stages at home and abroad. Since it was founded in 1918, the orchestra – led over the years by acclaimed chief conductors such as Edo de Waart, James Conlon, Valery Gergiev, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Lahav Shani – has acquired a place among Europe’s most prestigious orchestras. This season, the orchestra can be heard in Iolanta. Residentie Orkest This ensemble has a rich history stretching back more than 120 years and it is one of the great symphony orchestras of the Netherlands. The innovative orchestra, with chief conductor Jun Märkl at the helm, plays at leading venues in the Netherlands and abroad in addition to its home concert hall Amare in The Hague. This season, the orchestra will perform Red Fox. The Netherlands Bach Society This unique vocal-instrumental ensemble gave its first performance more than a century ago with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Matthäus-Passion in the Grote Kerk in Naarden. Since then, the Bach Society has been devoted heart and soul to sharing Bach’s music with the world. The ensemble brings together vocalists and musicians performing on period instruments. The Netherlands Bach Society is making its debut at Dutch National Opera this season with the Johannes-Passion. Het Muziek Het Muziek (formerly Asko|Schönberg) is a groundbreaking ensemble for new music. They are constantly exploring what music can be and expressing it – with an open mind – in high-profile projects, with unconventional partners and crossovers. They perform both the iconic oeuvre of the great twentieth-century composers and new works of the twenty-first century. This season, Het Muziek can be heard in Hedda Gabler. National Youth Orchestra The National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (NYO) offers outstanding young musicians (aged 18-26) a platform to develop their skills and perform at a high level. Since 1957, the NYO has brought young players together for special concerts, including the Muziek- zomer Gelderland, and the NYO Winter Tour, during which the orchestra travels to the leading Dutch concert halls. This season, the NYO is part of the community opera Uprising.
