62 The Chorus of Dutch National Opera has formed the beating heart of the company for decades. This season is no different, with the ensemble shining in classics as well as contemporary works. At both the opening and end of the season, the chorus will feature prominently in pro- ductions that allow the singers to shine vocally as well as theatrically. Between the first performance of Pagliacci / Cavalleria rusticana (September 2026) and the final performance of La damnation de Faust (June 2027), the ensemble can be heard in a broad and varied repertoire – from baroque to contemporary works. Alongside large-scale operas that call for the full chorus, it will also perform in smaller formations. In productions such as Cherry Town and Red Fox, eight to twenty singers take the stage, showcasing the ensemble’s versatility. The chorus will also join forces with the singers of the Netherlands Bach Society in the staged performance of Bach’s Johannes-Passion. And with Der fliegende Holländer and Orfeo ed Euridice on the programme, the ensemble appears in two iconic works by by some of opera’s great innovators. Chorus This richly varied programme once again shows why the Chorus of Dutch National Opera, with a history spanning more than forty years, ranks among the finest in the world. The chorus consists of around fifty permanent members, at times expanding to as many as a hundred singers, representing 18 different nationalities. It is a diverse group, further enriched by the regular arrival of new chorus members. With special collaborations, innovative repertoire and a strong artistic profile, and with the chorus master Edward AnanianCooper at the helm, the Chorus of Dutch A driving force within Dutch National Opera Photo: Carla Kunst Opera The Nieuw Amsterdams Children’s Chorus Nieuw Amsterdams Children’s Chorus The Nieuw Amsterdams Children’s Chorus, part of Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam (NVA), is the regular children’s chorus partner of Dutch National Opera & Ballet. Children aged four and above learn to sing through play and can develop at their own pace to the highest level. The most advanced singers (up to age 21) receive training at Dutch National Opera. NVA is active at six locations across Amsterdam. This season, the chorus will shine in the operas Pagliacci / Cavalleria rusticana and La damnation de Faust. National Opera will make a meaningful contribution in the 2026 – 2027 season.
