Nationale Opera & Ballet

113 Opera and ballet expand your world – and we’re eager to share that experience with as many people as possible, young and old alike. We take great pride in introducing children and young people to the thrilling, multifaceted world of opera and ballet. Through a wide range of activities, we invite them to discover these art forms in ways that are engaging, enriching and unforgettable. In Studio Boekman, our intimate theatre space, we present dedicated youth productions. Here, young audiences sit close to the singers and dancers and experience firsthand just how moving, powerful and exciting opera and ballet can be. On our Main Stage, we present large-scale family produc- tions designed to captivate audiences of all ages. Beyond the stage There’s plenty to discover beyond the performances, too. During the Jump Dance Days, ballet fans can take part in joyful workshops in our studios. For those who love to sing and create, Opera Heroes is a hands-on programme where young participants work together towards a performance of their own. And at our annual Open House, taking place this season on Saturday 29 August 2026, the whole family is invited backstage to explore the magic of our theatre up close. Education We offer an extensive programme for students of all ages and across all levels of education, reaching schools throughout the Netherlands. Whether it’s a one-off workshop, a long-term project, a class visit to our theatre, or a tailor-made programme delivered in schools, there’s a suitable activity for every group. Each year, we introduce thousands of students to opera and ballet, often for the very first time. It’s a valuable and inspiring experience to the development and creativity of both the students and the staff of Dutch National Opera & Ballet.
