According to them, the fact that they come from totally different backgrounds is precisely their strength. “By using a variety of dance styles, the possibilities just keep on multiplying”, says Meisner. For GRIMM, they took the best-known fairy tales by the famous brothers Grimm as their starting point. Mixing them up resulted in a cool, entertaining spectacle, which also has great appeal for non-dance-lovers. Fantasy world Through a video game, two brothers end up in a fantasy world, where they meet various fairy-tale characters. They take up arms against a wicked witch who’s trying to gain power over four kingdoms. He (because this time a man is dancing the role of the witch) can only succeed if he manages to pair off four handsome princes with Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel. Of course, the brothers want to lend a hand in foiling the witch’s plans. Amazing pirouettes and head spins The video projections in GRIMM make everything seem possible: a fruit-filled spring woodland transforms in no time into a menacing witch’s forest. In it, the dancers show off their skills: dizzying pirouettes, impressive leaps, jerky popping and locking movements and amazing head spins. Ballet fans will also recognise quotes from famous fairy-tale ballets, including a delightful imitation of the dance of the little swans from Swan Lake, performed by four hiphop dwarves. Well-known fairy tales in an enchanting mix of hiphop and ballet Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and her seven dwarves: they all make an appearance in GRIMM. This delightfully crazy collage performance for young and old is the proof that hiphop and ballet form a golden duo. After the first acclaimed tour, the second tour couldn’t go ahead due to the corona pandemic, so now’s the time to grab the opportunity to see this hit production by the Junior Company and ISH Dance Collective (or to see it again). “ Incredibly original, creative and funny (...) GRIMM is an absolute must-see” De Telegraaf 95
