Choreographic Academy 30 August 2025 | Presentation at the Open House Besides being a hotbed of young dance talent, the Junior Company also provides scope for choreographers and composers to explore new directions – in the Choreographic Academy, for example. In this project, a select number of makers work with dancers from the Junior Company for three weeks, following which the results are presented at the Open House. In this year’s Choreographic Academy, we’ll be working with students on the composition course at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, among others. New Moves 23 and 24 May 2026 | Studio Boekman In New Moves, you can enjoy exciting new works created for and by the dancers of Dutch National Ballet. This annual choreographic workshop encourages our dancers to explore and present their choreographic talents or prove themselves as designers, production managers or stage managers. In addition, we regularly invite young choreographers from outside the company to participate. NextSteps 26 and 27 June 2026 | Studio Boekman What happens when you bring ballet and hiphop into dialogue with one another? In NextSteps, the classically trained dancers of the Junior Company and the street-based performers of ISH Dance Collective are given the creative freedom to devise and/or perform new choreographic pieces. The only condition is that the new work must be a mix of ballet and hiphop. Besides makers from the Junior Company and ISH, for NextSteps we’re also recruiting choreographers from elsewhere through ‘Open Calls’ and thus opening our doors to get to know new makers. Dancers of Tomorrow 3 and 4 July 2026 | Main Stage During the season, many of the pupils and students at the Dutch National Ballet Academy get to take part in Dutch National Ballet’s performances, but once a year the talented youngsters get the big stage all to themselves. In the end-of-year performance Dancers of Tomorrow, they show what the next generation of ballet dancers has to offer, with live accompaniment from Dutch Ballet Orchestra. The Junior Company bridges the gap between training and professional practice, and gives talented young dancers an ideal opportunity to prepare for a career with Dutch National Ballet or another leading international ballet company. In the 2024 – 2025 season, the group comprised seventeen dancers. Led by Ernst Meisner, they follow a daily programme that reflects that of a major ballet company. The Junior Company dancers regularly take part in productions by Dutch National Ballet, as well as taking their own programme on tour each season. The group also works regularly with ISH Dance Collective. Talent development is a top priority for Dutch National Ballet. Our Junior Company, for example, prepares graduate ballet students for a career with a professional company, and we work in close collaboration with the Dutch National Ballet Academy. We also provide programmes for talented dancers and for promising choreographers and composers, giving rise to exciting performances. 105
