Dutch National Opera Studio The celebrated soprano Rosemary Joshua is Dutch National Opera Studio’s artistic leader. Drawing on her extensive experience as a singer and singing teacher, she has put together an internationally acclaimed programme for Studio members. It combines individual coaching, workshops and masterclasses by renowned directors and mentors with opportunities to gain work experience in the professional environment of Dutch National Opera. Members of the Opera Studio perform in lunch concerts and evening events in the foyer, they sing minor roles in Dutch National Opera productions and they play the main roles in the annual Opera Studio production. That production in the 2024 – 2025 season will be a concertante Purcell programme that includes the short opera Dido and Aeneas, in partnership with Opera Zuid and Nederlandse Reisopera. The talented young performers of the Opera Studio will tour the Netherlands with this ‘opera in concert’ form (see page 59). The Opera Studio pianists/répétiteurs are coached by Dutch National Opera’s music staff, they accompany them during the preparations and rehearsals for opera productions and they are included in all the Studio activities. Alumni Dutch National Opera Studio’s alumni offer ample proof that the programme delivers outstanding results. They have performed on the stages of such great opera houses as the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Teatro Real, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Hannover, Staatstheater Darmstadt and Staatstheater Mainz, and have sung at festivals including the Salzburger Festspiele, Glyndebourne and the Bregenz Festival. Alumni of the Opera Studio regularly return to Dutch National Opera in solo roles and perform in productions of Nederlandse Reisopera and Opera Zuid, partners of Dutch National Opera in the field of talent development and Dutch National Opera Studio.
