Chorus of Dutch National Opera A significant contribution to the international success of Dutch National Opera is made by its Chorus. In 2016, the Chorus was named the best opera chorus in the world. The Chorus consists of a core group of about fifty singers, who are regularly joined by additional chorus members as required. The Chorus can look back on numerous highlights, including Les Troyens, Parsifal, Faust, Das Floß der Medusa, Tannhäuser, Pagliacci / Cavalleria rusticana, Turandot and Messa da Requiem. Stand-out performances to add to the list in the 2023 – 2024 season were Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny and Lohengrin. This season, the Chorus of Dutch National Opera will be appearing in productions of the operas Rigoletto, Peter Grimes, Die Fledermaus, Idomeneo, Die Frau ohne Schatten and Boris Godunov. Our chorus singers also regularly perform on the concert stage. For example, in the 20242025 season they will be performing in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem together with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. Nieuw Amsterdams Children’s Chorus The Nieuw Amsterdams Children’s Chorus has been the regular children’s chorus partner of Dutch National Opera & Ballet since 2016. The chorus is part of Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam (NVA), a voice training programme for around 400 children and adolescents. Children are The Chorus accepted from the age of four, when they are taught to sing together using a playful approach. From the age of seven, children receive lessons in ensemble singing, solfège and stage presentation. The most advanced singers (up to the age of 21) also follow a monthly training programme at Dutch National Opera where they are taught by conductors and stage directors. This season, the Nieuw Amsterdams Children’s Chorus will be appearing in the productions of the operas Die Frau ohne Schatten and Borus Godunov, and the ballet The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
