I joined the company not too long ago, and putting this issue together forced me to dig deep into our story, the real story, the one built on long nights, engineering obsession and a constant drive to do things properly. Creating this issue with my colleague Lizzy and our CEO, Leon, gave me a front-row seat to that mindset. Hearing Leon talk about the early days, the experiments, the breakthroughs and the “try again tomorrow” moments made me realize how much of that DNA still lives in everything we do today. Whether it’s designing our own turbo components or building software from scratch, Mosselman has never been about shortcuts. It has always been about doing it right. This magazine isn’t just a look back. It’s a snapshot of what’s happening now and a small preview of where we’re headed. One turning point was building our own dyno facility, known as “The Oracle,” a Superflow 880 capable of handling up to 1,500 hp. It allows us to test and refine every product ourselves, exactly the way we believe it should be done. More recently, our Stage 2+ development for the G90/G99 M5 reached around 1,000 hp and 1,250 Nm in real use, proving how far the platform can go when everything works together. Celebrating 50 years of performance excellence in 2026 In the dynamic world of automotive engineering, continuity is a rare commodity. Mosselman Turbo Systems is proudly preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026, a powerful testament to our enduring legacy which began in 1976. Around the year 2000, our strategic focus sharpened to concentrate predominantly on BMW and Mercedes. However, driven by the desire for deeper specialisation and unmatched platform mastery, we began phasing out Mercedes from 2008. This strategic change defined who we are today: the undisputed specialist in the tuning and performance of BMW and MINI engines. This is the story of a pioneer who became a specialist, a journey built on five decades of passion and engineering precision. The decisive step towards our turbo specialism was taken in 1983. During this era, our development was comprehensive, encompassing not only turbochargers, often relying on reliable units from Garrett, but also supercharger kits and dedicated intercoolers to manage temperatures and boost efficiency. Our innovative systems found their way to iconic German tuners such as Brabus and Lorinser (Don’t tell anyone, it’s secret). Our early engineering capability was fast, famously extending beyond European performance cars with the development of a bi-turbo kit for the rugged Hummer V8 Diesel in the 80s. The compressor wheels are CNC-milled from forged billet aluminum for maximum strength and airflow efficiency, while the turbine wheels are built from Inconel or MAR–M to withstand extreme Exhaust Gas Temperatures. Each component is machined to exact tolerances before being assembled into the CHRA, the core of the turbo where strength, sealing and smooth rotation are critical. Balancing is the defining step in our process. Our turbos operate at speeds up to 200,000 rpm, so every wheel is balanced individually before the complete CHRA is high-speed balanced under oil pressure to replicate real-world conditions. Microscopic corrections are made until the core runs flawlessly, ensuring fast spool, stable boost and longterm durability. The result is a compact, high-performance unit that delivers predictable response, clean power delivery and the reliability Mosselman is known for. Our Mosselman Oil Thermostat is the core of this system. Instead of opening at the factory 105°C, it opens at 85°C, lowering operating oil temperature by roughly 20°C without slowing down warm-up time. This makes it suitable for both cold and warm climates, and especially effective on tuned engines. Built from CNC-machined billet aluminium and equipped with a real thermostat, it installs easily and is available in aluminium, black, red or blue. It is a simple but highly effective upgrade that improves stability, reliability and everyday drivability. For E-series N54 and N55 models that need even more cooling capacity, we offer the Mosselman Oil Cooler Kits. These kits use a high-quality Setrab 19-row cooler, pre-assembled brackets and a complete hose and adapter set in anodized grey or red. They are available as single or modular extension kits, allowing you to add a second cooler on the opposite side of the car for maximum heat control during track use or hot-climate driving. Installation is straightforward, although not fully plug-and-play, and takes around three hours. All Mosselman cooling products share the same philosophy: bring temperatures down earlier, keep them stable and protect the engine from unnecessary stress. Lower heat means longer-lasting turbos, healthier oil and more consistent performance, whether on a summer highway run or during spirited driving. BMW engines like the N54, N55 and S55 are well known for running hot, which is why we developed a complete range of cooling upgrades designed to keep temperatures under control in every condition. FEATURE RELEASE: MSL900, The Pump Gas Package Hits 900 HP Our MSL 1000 M3 G80 project originated from a client’s drive to build a 1000 Hp+ M3 G80 CS on ethanol, tackling the drivetrain and the engine, the complete package. But while we were at it, we discovered some secret sauce and reached 900 Hp on premium pump gas Octane 98, a result that was beyond our own expectations. The total package we added to the car made a perfect symphony and showcased the full potential of our latest specification S58 upgrade turbochargers. Eliminating Weak Links: Fueling and Cooling Just under 800 Hp, the S58’s fuel supply is coming close to its limits. Going above that threshold means a lot of components have to be upgraded to eliminate weak links one by one. For the high fuel demand, we installed two extra low-pressure pumps from Precision Raceworks, delivered as a complete kit with extra fuel lines, a fuel pressure regulator, and wiring. We then A Perfect Symphony: Beyond Our Expectations 28
installed a Mishimoto Chargecooler, a product that comes with a fuel rail for port injection, and added six Bosch 1000cc injectors. To integrate this port injection, we chose the REV2 option from BootMod. This is a very high-tech solution because it is fully integrated with the original engine ECU. It offers all the functions we needed, including FlexFuel and extra sensors, plus something very useful in a car this powerful: Map Switching. This means the driver can choose different engine (power) settings directly on the steering wheel while driving. For reliable performance, cooling was addressed comprehensively: we installed the Mishimoto Chargecooler, plus the oil cooler, gearbox cooler, heat exchanger, auxiliary coolers, and boost pipe. The Vanos Strike: Our Heavy Duty Solution To truly let an engine breathe, you need serious flow. After upgrading the exhaust and intake, we went deeper. We contacted Kellford and decided on a set of camshafts to let our cylinder head breathe better. To deal with these more aggressive cam profiles and increased boost levels, we installed stronger valve springs to keep everything under control. The breathing was better, but one thing went in the wrong direction: the Exhaust Vanos adjuster. This device is happy in a stock car, okay in a Stage 2 car, and unhappy in a Stage 3 environment. When you add increased fuel demand, boost, stronger valve springs, and a more aggressive camshaft on top of that, your Exhaust Vanos is not going to work with pleasure anymore and goes into a strike. We found that research only pointed to Vanos delete solutions. That is where our Heavy Duty Vanos Adjuster idea was born. Instead of eliminating the feature altogether, we developed a real solution to keep full control over your valvetiming, and enable the maximum performance at any load, at any RPM. The Next Goal: 1000 HP on the Autobahn Our latest goal is to reach 1000 Hp on “German Autobahn pump fuel,” which has an octane level of 102. Maybe we have to throw another flow improvement on it. With a chip tuning (also called ECU remap), the software of the ECU is rewritten by our specialist. Parameters are optimized, which ensures more power and torque. To ensure that we deliver the best quality, the Mosselman ECU remaps are exclusively developed for BMW and MINI cars. We create our own software calibrations. The Generic Chip Tuner’s Compromise: Generic tuners often offer lower prices because their approach is fundamentally different. They typically rely on copied or generalized files, often overlooking critical details and only addressing superficial parameters. This lack of detailed data logging, parameter analysis, and precise limiter calibration significantly increases the risk of long-term engine issues and rarely delivers the optimized performance that your vehicle is truly capable of. Five decades of mastering performance tuning, from our early work on iconic platforms to our current, specialized focus on BMW and MINI, has solidified one guiding philosophy: we engineer solutions where the factory stops. Our recent introduction of the innovative Heavy Duty Exhaust VANOS Adjuster perfectly illustrates this. Just like we faced the Vanos issue when pushing for the 1000 Hp goal in our MSL project and decided to develop a real solution instead of a simple delete, we will continue to chase every missing piece in the high-performance market. The future of Mosselman is clear: relentless pursuit of the ultimate, no-compromise solution for the BMW driver. The Pillars of Performance Expansion You can expect a massive expansion in our core offerings. Drivetrain Security: Just like the Exhaust VANOS that goes on a strike under high load, the automatic transmission needs serious reinforcement when chasing big numbers. We are developing reinforced components for automatic transmissions and other drivetrain upgrades to ensure that every single horsepower we help you achieve is reliably transferred to the asphalt. Race-Bred, Road-Ready: The Return to the Track While our focus has been primarily on product development in recent years, true performance engineering is born under the extreme stress of competition.
