Hiswa Te Water Magazine

59 HISWA TE WATER MAGAZINE Cutter Stay The Arcona 50 is equipped with a Yanmar common rail diesel engine with saildrive and folding propeller. Even when running, the engine is barely audible inside. Standard sail configuration includes an 86-squaremeter mainsail and a 56-square-meter selftacking jib. The test boat was equipped with a 110% genoa of 65 m². The asymmetrical spinnaker adds another 222 m² of sail area. A cutter stay is also available for hoisting a storm jib. The mainsail rolls electrically into the light John Mast boom. The winches and deck hardware are from Harken. Shorthanded On the test day, there was an easterly wind of 15-18 knots, and once the sails were unfurled, the yacht accelerated quickly. The boat steers lightly but with great sensitivity, giving you continuous control. When heeling, the windward side of the cockpit rises over three meters above the water, but the boat remains stable. You can feel that this thoroughbred yacht constantly wants to go faster. Without any trimming, we’re already sailing at 8 knots in 12 knots of wind at a 40-degree angle to the true wind. Tacking with the 110% genoa is simple and happens quickly. Before you know it, we’re back to 8-9 knots on the meters. Under these conditions, the boat is easy to sail shorthanded or even solo. The speed puts a permanent smile on the sailors’ faces. The Arcona 50 offers the perfect blend of sailing comfort, living comfort, and racing capabilities. That’s why this lightning-fast smile yacht is nominated for the Hiswa Sailing Yacht of the Year Innovation Award 2024. A comprehensive test report with video can be viewed on boottesten.nl.
