48 From startup to global franchise concept Raw Idea Tanaruz Four years ago, 3D printing was still in its infancy, but some Rotterdam entrepreneurs foresaw a great future for this technology. They started as Raw Idea to sustainably manufacture larger plastic products with advanced 3D printing technology. Last year, Raw Idea released the first 3D printed Tanaruz boat. Footprint Joyce Pont is one of the driving forces behind Raw Idea and Tanaruz. She travels a lot because many people want to hear her talk about the almost limitless possibilities of 3D printed products. Recently, the very first 3D printed Tanaruz was sold to Japan. The company, which strives to minimize its ecological “footprint,” will have its next boats printed in Japan. Meanwhile, there is a franchise concept, which allows companies worldwide to print the thoughtful designs in their own environment. Rental The boat being printed in Japan is a new model, a 5-meter tender after a design by house designer Zander Tocher. Last year his first Tanaruz Ozare prototype, of 6.5 meters was already on display on the quay of the Hiswa te Water. In this edition of the show, the new 5-meter Tanaruz is in the water. It is particularly suitable for rental purposes due to its good sailing characteristics and strength. Solar panels The model comes standard with a 2kW E-propulsion electric outboard motor. The “Japanese” version of the 5-meter tender gets a 6kW electric motor, because as a water cab, it needs more power for cruising the Osaka River.
