Regular exhibitor at the Hiswa te Water is Bomarine. This company aims to make the lives of (touring) sailors more enjoyable. Bomarine does this with innovative products that enable sailors to achieve more with less effort, both above and under water. Parasailor Bomarine’s best-known product is the Parasailor, the modern alternative to leeward sails like gennaker and spinnaker. The Parasailor is a symmetrical flying headsail, like a spinnaker, but with a fullwidth opening in it. An air-filled wing is attached in the middle of that opening, similar to a kite. Transatlantic Bomarine has been selling the Parasailor for more than 20 years. Owner Bojan Michiels van Kessenich experienced the sail for the first time during a transatlantic crossing. The Parasailor was able to stay in winds between 0 and 30 knots for the entire trip which made for a super relaxed crossing. Those used to sailing with a spinnaker know that this is a rather nervous sail that needs a lot of care and attention. In addition, the spinnaker boom is often a nightmare for overworked foredeckers and for sailing couples or families. Those objections are removed with the Parasailor. Stable The Parasailor is a combination of a sail and a kite that work closely together. While sailing, the wing keeps the sail stable and the sail keeps the wing in the right place. When the wing fills with wind, it functions as an air-filled, soft sail bar that causes the spinnaker to open quickly and hold its shape. This eliminates the need for a spinnaker boom. You operate the Parasailor with four lines: two “normal” sheets and two so-called “tack lines,” which run through the blocks on the bow (sprit). With these four lines you can control the sail from the cockpit and jibe extremely easily. The wind is also deflected downward by the kite and therefore, in addition to propulsion, STANDNR E08 With Bomarine More enjoyable sailing 44
