In 1684, Stadtholder William III and Princess Mary bought a small castle: Het Oude Loo. The young couple had a new summer residence built nearby, which would become Paleis Het Loo. The location was ideal: the new palace was situated at a very low point in the middle of the Veluwe moorland, an extensive hunting ground. It was a perfect ̛͛ͩͅ ʱ̛͍ Ʉ Ʉ˵Ʉɲʍ ʳɄ͍ ɾʍ̌ , Νˏͩ ˂ ΝɄͩ ʍ͍ ђ̛ Νˏ̌ ʳ ˏ̛̌ͩ ˂ʍʳɄ͍ɾʍ̌ ʱ̛͍̆ ˂ˏʳ˂ʍ͍ ͷ͍ɲʍ͛ ʍΘʍ͍Ʉ˵ ˬˏ˵̛̆ ʍ͍ͩ ʍ͛ ɄΝɄΩ,ʱʍʍɾˏ̌ ʳˏͩ͛ ђ̛ Νʍ͍͛ Ʉ̌ ɾʱ̛ ͷ̌ͩ Ʉˏ̌͛ ࢶ The last residents of the palace, Princess Margriet and her family, departed in 1977. Paleis Het Loo became a museum in 1984. In 2023, an underground expansion was opened to the public. The expansion provides a place for all museum functions and facilities, including expanded space for exhibitions, reception rooms and the museum shop.
